“What can I expect for my first acupressure appointment?”
STEP 1: Arriving at the Clinic
Please arrive on time wearing loose-fitting comfortable clothing (no jeans or heavy fabric) so Elin can easily access acupoints on your body. Please arrive on time for your appointment. Elin may have clients before your treatment so please don't arrive too early in advance.
Address for Appointment:
3518 3rd Ave, Daajing Giids. Drive up Forestry Hill and to your right, you will eventually see a wooden purple bin. Turn right down that road and you will arrive.
STEP 2: Initial Appointment will include a Consultation
The first treatment will include a consultation that may take up to 30 minutes. Elin will provide an intake form that asks specific questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Chinese Medicine takes everything into account. Feel free to ask Elin any questions at this time, but know you can also continue your conversation throughout the treatment. Treatments can be silent or spoken, and it really depends on how you are feeling and what you want out of the session.
STEP 3: Treatment
Your treatment will begin once you lay on the massage table. Acupressure does not require you to take off any clothing, but make sure you do wear comfortable and light clothes, as well as comfortable socks. Elin will begin the treatment with a pulse diagnosis for the 12 meridians on both wrists. This will help her assess the condition of each organ and its current state of balance. Each meridian is associated with a different health concern, and it may be in alignment with what you are looking to address.
Elin will then begin a 40-minute acupressure pattern that will address your main concerns. As mentioned above, you are welcome to rest and stay silent, sleep, or have a conversation throughout the entire treatment. Elin may ask you to breathe deep into points if they are sensitive. She will always ask for feedback on how the points are feeling throughout the treatment, as well as your comfort. (Massage table can be heated throughout the session, as well as blankets if you become cold.)
During the last 10 minutes of treatment, Elin will do a general head, neck, and shoulder release. The shoulder release assists clients to become centered, grounded, and alert before they "head back out into the world." It also helps with the integration of the main acupressure work performed and they are five main points where most individuals generally carry tension. Elin will close the session by holding a powerful point on the sole of your foot called Kidney 1. This point will help you come back to the present moment and wake you up if you have fallen asleep. Water will be provided afterward as well as acupressure handouts, Qigong exercises, and specific recommendations made for you.
STEP 4: Payment
You are welcome to pay beforehand or after your session through e-transfer or cash.
